P: You’ll find that out very soon! Maybe even next week. But there are still some points to iron out. Um, so, that takes care of Monday.
S: A full day?
P: Well, let’s say a typical day. From Zurich I’m going on to Budapest on Tuesday. There are some very exciting opportunities in Eastem Europe at the moment.
S: Our information is that the market situation is quite stagnant at present.
P: Well, Rome wasn’t built in a day. We have to take a medium-term view and look at where they are going to be five years from now. the potential is enormous. My job is to make sure that we’re there when the barriers are truly broken down. At the moment, I am talking them round to our way of thinking and way of working. The rest will happen when the time is right.
S: So, is Hungary your only are of interest in East Europe?
P: No, not at all. In fact, after Tuesday morning in Budapest, I’m going to Prague, where we already have the seeds of a very successful joint venture. We’re planning to open up a major production centre in the north of the Czech republic. It’ll be funded partly by us and partly by a new East Europe Technology Development Fund.
S: That sounds very exciting.
P: Yes. On Monday and Tuesday I’ll be sowing the seeds for the European operations of PH Industries.
S: And Wednesday?
P: Wednesday, I’m back in Hinton for a series of internal meetings. I’ve brought forward our monthly marketing meeting, because of the unexpected sales increases. So, I’ll be looking over the figures with the marketing team during the morning. And in the afternoon, there is a series of technical meetings to look into the successor to the VAC2500. in fact I only put in a taken appearance at technical meetings because that’s not my forte. Oh yes, in between I have a lunch invitation in London to address the Anglo-Danish Chamber of Commerce on European Technical Integration.
S: Is that as a result of the new political Europe?
P: No, not really, it’s just a coincidence. Thursday I’m spending here. From my diary I see that my secretary has set up two meetings for me with visitors from European technologists: one from Germany and the other from Japan. I’m looking froward to that; that should be quite interesting. And between the meetings I have to catch up on matters here in Hinton.
S: And Friday?
P: As a rule I keep Friday free to deal with matters that need attention here. With the business moving so quickly, I don’t like to take myself away from base more than necessary. And I like to give everyone here an opportunity to talk to me about developments on a regular basis. You se, I’m convinced that we’ve got the winning team here and I want to make sure that it stays that way.

BW：从我们的谈话来看，我想你赞同另一个理论？
AT：对极了。Y理论对人性持较明朗乐观的观点。我认为它最能表达人的本性。至少对人口中的绝大多数人来说是如此。简言之，Y理论认为只要满足一定的条件，大多数人愿意把精力花在工作上，就如同他们愿意花精力去娱乐一样。这些条件便函是：第一，需要给出明确目标和规定完成任务的奖励；第二，要明确职责；第三，要求有机会发挥想像力、创造力和聪明才智并用来解决公司实际问题。因此，只要环境适宜，人们愿意工作，渴望工作，能从工作中获得满足感，而且他们善于工作。
