I seldom go to the uni if I don't have classes. What's more, more than 80%
of the students of my class are chinese. You sit down only to find the 8
people surrounding you are all chinese. Chinese students go to class earlier
than students from other countries because they want the best seats so that
they can hear the teacher clearly and see the slides with no difficulty.
You are walking in the street, you are waiting in the railway station, you
are sitting on the train, and you hear somebody's mobile phone ring....The
most probable sound you hear to end the ring is "wei" instead of "hello".
I have to do a group project for one of my classes. I don't know many of the
classmates. So I get online and go to the blackboard which is setup by our
faculty for communications among students and lecturers and enter the
communication section to look for some names that don't look like chinese
names. You know, I don't want to choose Chinese students as my group mates.
I want to make use of the opportunity to know people from other countries
and learn from them. Now I have got 5 people in the group: 3 chinese: me, a
boy and another boy from hongkong; an indonesian, and a girl from Bangkok.
There is another person who wants to join but I still don't know where he or
she is from. It's hard to find a native English speaker because they are as
few in our class as pandas in the world.
I got to know an undergraduate Chinese boy who has been in Melbourne for 9
years. Maybe he is now the only person who can speak English with me
constantly.
