there was a 3-day band competition on campus from monday to wednesday. i had
classes at monday and tuesday night so i didn't go to the first two days' show.
i went there with my flatmate john last night, hoping to see the exciting
competition. it was raining outside, but i persuaded john that the rain
wouldn't affect the competition. we got to manning building, and
dissappointedly found that few people were there. and then we managed to find
the manning bar where the competition was supposed to happen. some people were
on the stage trying their instruments, and a girl sitting in front of the door.
i was thinking: the ad said it was free... the girl saw me and walked toward
me....ticket? student id? i was wondering what she wanted me to show her.
she asked for my id, but not john's. i showed her my student id card. she told
me i must show an id baring my birth date. "how old are you? you must prove you
are older than 18." omg! "i'm twenty five! i'm postgraduate!" the girl
hesitated. there is neither my birth date nor my postgraduate situation on my
student id card. she looked back for help. a boy came to me, and took my card,
examined..."see, you enrolled 2001. there is no evidence that you are older
than 18." faint. i repeated my age again and again. nobody would believe me.
"driver's licence? any other id documents showing your birthdate?" i didn't
take any of such things. i didn't know seeing a band competition need me to
show them my passport. they shrugged which means "no entry pls". john almost
laughed to tears. he told me if i want to enter a BAR i need to be at least 18.
i almost cried. how i wish to see a live band performance!
