一个多世纪以前，俄国小说家列夫·托尔斯泰写道，"幸福的家庭都是相似的，不幸的家庭各有各的不幸。"可是最近，心理学家和社会学家却开始质疑这一评价。
Most books say it's important for couples to fight fair - but 69 percent of all marital(夫妻的) conflicts(冲突) never get resolved(解决) because they are about personality differences between couples. What's critical(紧要的) is not whether they resolve conflicts but whether they can cope with them.
大多数书都说重要的是夫妻间的矛盾要公平解决，然而69%的婚姻矛盾因为夫妻性格的差异造成，永远都无法解决。所以关键不是看他们能否解决这些矛盾，而是看他们能否处理好它们。
Every couple has irreconcilable(不能和解的) differences; such differences ought to be “managed”, instead of being grounds for separations, split-ups and divorce.
“每一对”夫妻之间都存在着不可调和的差异，对这些差异应该 “管理”，而不是用来作为分居、断绝关系乃至离婚的理由。
People have this fairly(颇为，相当地) unrealistic(不切实际的) idea: I have got to have bliss(幸福) and it's got to stay or this is not going to work. At some level, you don't need the bliss. The Hollywood romance may not be the prelude(前奏) to a long-term happy marriage.
人们有着这样一种很不切实际的想法：我必须得有幸福感，而且得一直有，否则我的婚姻就是不行的。其实在某些层次，你并不需要这种幸福感。好莱坞似的浪漫并不一定是长期、幸福的婚姻的序幕。

1.cope with
短语cope with意思是“对付、处理”，如：
Can you give me some advise to cope with this problem.
处理这样的问题你能给我点建议吗？
表达这个意思，也可以用deal with短语，如：
He has learnt to deal properly with all kinds of complicated situations.
他已学会恰当地应付各种复杂局面。
注意，它们的区别在于，deal with还可以表达“关于……”的意思，如：
This book deals with an important issue.
这本书论及一个重要的问题。
2.fair和fairly
(1)fair是形容词，有“公平的”、“尚可的”、“晴朗的”等意思，如：
That's a fair comment.
那是公正的评价。
His knowledge of English is fair.
他的英语水平尚可。
The weather will be fair today.
今天天气会很晴朗。
(2)fairly是副词，有“公正地”、“颇为、相当地”、“完全简直地”等意思，如：
That salesman deals fairly with his customers.
那个销售员与顾客做生意很公平。
She is a fairly good dancer.
她是一个相当不错的舞蹈演员。
He was fairly beside himself with joy.
他简直欣喜若狂。
